Spanish start-up OX Motorcycles has moved the production of its 100% electric motorcycle, OX One, to Madrid.
After a year of development and prototyping in China, and due to the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, OX Motorcycles decided to start serial production at the QuaZZar Technology Center in the capital of Spain.
OX One, the 100% electric motorcycle with Café Racer aesthetics, was designed in Spain. It has a retro look, but will come with the latest technologies. It will have a top speed of up to 110km/h and a range of up to 100km. It is powered by a 6kW motor and a single removable and easy-to-transport battery. It meshes artificial intelligence and IoT to improve safety and the driver’s experience.
OX One’s price in Spain is €5,200. The electric two-wheeler can now be booked for a down payment of €150 on the company’s website. Spanish customers will be able to test the first units in July, and the first OX One will be delivered in October 2021.
“After two years working with our factory in China, learning from the number one electric vehicle industry in the world, we have decided to move our production to Spain, highlighting national capacities and promoting sustainable industry. Besides, we have managed to reduce our operating costs and to provide a closer, local and personalised customer experience. Our customers are the main beneficiaries of this decision, and this was key for us,” said Adrián González, CEO, OX Motorcycles.
The agreement with QuaZZar Technologies to manufacture of OX One in Spain aims to guarantee the highest quality of electric vehicles. At the same time, it provides a boost to the motorcycle industry in Spain.
Miguel Ángel Ferrero, CEO, QuaZZar Technologies, said, “I am proud as a Spanish businessman to work with these young entrepreneurs who give us the wonderful opportunity to generate quality employment and have helped us to consolidate our industrial model of growth and sustainable development. To manufacture OX ONE in our facilities is an honour, but, at the same time, it is a great responsibility and a great challenge that we are delighted to take on, and we are sure of guaranteeing a fine product. QuaZZar Technologies is currently manufacturing 1,200 units at its plant. With our recent agreement with OX, we have expanded our facilities to 2,000 square metres.”
OX Motorcycles will have a production capacity in Madrid of 2,000 units per year, enough to handle the needs of its plan to expand to the European market in the third quarter of 2021.
The manufacturing deal allows OX Motorcycles to meet the delivery deadline and user experience committed to its customers.
